Surgeries

Well, some of you may not have realized it, but Grant had ear tube surgery yesterday (the 24th). Of course he did great, they took him back around 7:45 and he was out by 8:15 or so. Ear tubes are such a quick thing (about 7 minutes for the actual procedure). The rest of the day you couldn't even tell he'd had anything done --- he acted fine.

Now, we'd love to have that same result next week. On September 2 (Wednesday) Grant AND Tyler will both be having foot surgery by Dr. Olney (the orthopaedic surgeon) in Kansas City at Children's Mercy Hospital. We will be traveling up the night before (I think) because Grant will be first thing in the morning and Tyler right after him. Grant will be having his big toe (which currently sticks out) squeezed in by closing the cleft in his foot some. Tyler will be having the exact same thing done on his right foot that he had on his left. Both will be in the hospital overnight (separate rooms due to the fact that they have no dual rooms there). Chris and I will both be there --- one of us in each room, and possibly switching some. We are to be dismissed on Thursday at some point (hopefully by noonish). Keep us in your thoughts and prayers as we anticipate these surgeries. Thanks!

Baby turns ONE

Our baby turned one on Thursday. Today we celebrated with family and a few friends. Oh how the time flies. It doesn't seem that long ago that we were waiting for his arrival. What a blessing he is in our lives!!!

Another Royals game

Drove to Kansas City yesterday for the Royals vs. Twins game. Tyler was supposed to go, but had been to a birthday party and spent the night with a friend the night before. He had fallen asleep and said he was too tired and didn't want to go. So, last minute we called a friend of Ryan's and he went with us. It was his first Royals game ever. The boys had a great time and the game was a good one, although the outcome wasn't how we'd hoped. Got home about 1:30, which made for a short night. Chris had to work, so his Uncle Myron saved the day by going with us so I wouldn't have to drive the whole way.

New Year, New Grades

All 4 kids on the 1st day of school

The Huxman family has successfully started a new year, with all the 3 "school age" members being in a new grade. Tyler had a great first day with Mrs. Kaufman. A little different for him as ALL the 3rd graders are in one classroom, although they will be divided up/or have more assistance during the core subjects of Math and Reading. Ryan really enjoyed Middle School and the 5th grade with Mrs. Ortman - Kaitlen that is (yeah, we'll see how it works being in a class with a great family friend). His only complaint about his first day was that Band was only 25 minutes long --- he thought it should be longer. That's great if that is the only complaint.

I started at the Middle School in the 5th grade also. I am really enjoying it!!! Ryan still doesn't mind me being around as I have still received a hug each of the last 2 days. I'm enjoying the moment because I'm sure it will not last too long. This was a great class to move up from 4th grade with:) The most stressful part for me is creating everything new for class AND I agreed to be the Junior High Assistant Volleyball coach. So, I have to go to practice for 2 hours directly after school each day. Hard not being able to stay and clean things up/get ready for the next day. I'm trying to turn over a new leaf in a new building by getting to school by 7:30 each morning. So far, so good (although it has only been 2 days).

Grant's Bathtime

Well, Grant has always been a maniac in the bathtub because he's tried to climb right out. Well, now he figured out how to splash and according to the following video, obviously has a great time doing it. He loves his baths, but it is difficult to get him to be still long enough to wash him:)
